Sony a6000 Autofocus vs Bird In Flight

Image
Osprey Incoming Caught by Jack Scholl and the Sony A6000 Jack Scholl took out the Sony A6000 for some bird-in-flight shots. Here is what Jack S posted: The following is a 9 shot burst (we had 12 but didn't want to violate the 10 shot rule) with the A6000/SEL18200. The osprey is coming right at us and fast. The first 9 shots are OOC with no PP other than crop. The last is a simple standard LR preset of the last shot. We have shot BIF with Canon, Nikon and now Sony . . . this is a very good AF system in our opinion. Check out the whole 9 shot series from the A6000 at dpreview . This is pretty impressive for a mirrorless system.

Sony A7r with Konica Hexanon 57mm f1.2

Image
Sony A7r with Konica Hexanon 57mm f/1.2 shot by NEX-7 with a Leica 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R Here are some of our test shots from the Sony A7r and the Konica Hexanon 57mm f/1.2 lens. The lens was mounted on the A7r using a Konica AR lens adapter . We wanted to test out the lens at f/1.2 the whole time and it was fitted with a 4X ND filter to battle the sun. The 1/8000 shutter speed and 50 ISO of the Sony A7r helped at times as well. The Konica 57mm played very well with the A7r per our standards. All the shots were handheld as we rarely use a tripod. The focusing, at such a shallow depth of field from the large f/1.2 aperture of the lens, was manageable on the A7r. The weight of the lens would make us think twice of walking around with it but the results are hard to argue with. The details shown at f/1.2 is remarkable even at the outer edges of the shots. 100% crop of the shot above shows great detail. Not a technically perfect shot. Red Pail Pops. 100% crop of the shot a

Sony 70-200mm FE E-mount Lens Review by DxOMark

Image
DxOMark tests the new Sony 70-200mm f/4 G FE lens on the A7r and finds that it performs well against the competition. This lens would also work great with the fast autofocus of the Sony A6000 with an equivalent field of view of 135-300mm on the aps-c sensor. From the DxOMark review: The Sony’s performance is very good and sharpness levels are very high, and even though it can’t quite match the best in class – the Nikkor 70-200mm f4 - at 200mm, it’s still unlikely to disappoint. Coming bundled with a tripod collar, the Sony even slightly undercuts the rival Nikkor model, making the FE 70-200mm f4G OSS look good value without compromising on quality or practical features. Sony A7r and NEX APS-C Lenses

Carl Zeiss 32mm Touit Lens on Sony A7r Here are a bevy of autofocus lenses made for the Sony NEX system mounted on the new Sony A7r . The red boxes show a 1:1 or square aspect ratio and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The lenses have rear baffles which were not removed. Most of the prime lenses can provide a square image with a little bit of vignetting. 16:9 images show heavy vignetting, maybe we can extract a 2.35:1 Cinemascope / Panavision image with the A7r's 36 megapixels to play with.
