No water droplets.

I was trying to get some nice spherical water droplets but to no avail.

Focus Stack Test with the Leica 60mm Elmarit-R

Image
8 Images Blended Together. Here is the Lysudamuloa Red Jewel in full bloom. We wanted to try out focus stacking with the Leica 60mm Macro Elmarit-R. The aperture was set at f/5.6 which we assumed was optimal. The image above at 45˚ was a stack of 8 shots aligned and blended together with Photoshop. NY Botanical Garden with the A7r and Minolta 35-70mm MD

Image
We took the Sony A7r with the Minolta 35-70mm MD Macro lens to the New York Botanical Garden's The Orchid Show . The 35-70mm MD Macro makes for a nice walkabout zoom lens for the full frame A7r. It can cover wide angle to medium telephoto shots. The majority of pictures poster here were taken using macro mode, providing 1:4 magnification. The aperture was set at f/5.6 - f/8. The Sony A7r was set to shutter priority mode at 1/200 and auto ISO. This was in order to minimize camera shake indoors, since this was all hand held. We were pleased with the results and drawing style provided by the a7r and the Minolta 35-70mm. This would be a nice inexpensive travel lens.

Samples from Zeiss 35mm and 55mm Sonnar FE and Touit 50mm Macro

Image
Zeiss 35mm Sonnar FE on a NEX-7 Here are some samples we were able to take at PhotoPlus Expo. We tried the three new Zeiss lenses which are the 35mm f/2.8 Sonnar FE, the 55mm f/1.8 Sonnar FE, and the 50mm f/2.8 Makro Touit. The Zeiss FE lenses were located in the Sony exhibit alongside the new Sony A7 cameras . Both the 35mm and the 55mm Sonnar FE felt at home on the Sony NEX-7. They were neither heavy nor enormous on the NEX. The Sonnar FE samples were taken using autofocus. Click on them and they are 100% crops from RAW files from the NEX-7. We didn't have enough time with the lenses but the results are excellent. Zeiss 35mm Sonnar FE on a NEX-7 Zeiss 55mm Sonnar FE NEX-7 Sample The Zeiss Touit 50mm Macro Planar was stationed at the Carl Zeiss exhibit. We were lucky enough to speak with Dr. Pollman, Zeiss Program Manager, about the new Touit 50mm Macro. He stated that this is their first 50mm macro which can provide a 1 to 1 magnification. The shots below are

Sony NEX-7 with Leica 60mm Macro Elmarit-R

Image
Here are a few shots from Old Sturbridge Village using our newly acquired Leica 60mm f/2.8 Macro Elmarit-R on the Sony NEX-7. The Leica 60mm Macro is said to have "excellent image quality at close-up range..." and "superb results at greater distances" when stopped down. We used the Macro Elmarit-R wide open all day at f/2.8 and only stopped down to f/5.6 when the depth of field was needed. The NEX-7 was set to Aperture Priority and ISO 100 outdoors or Auto ISO indoors. A basic Leica R to E-mount lens adapter was used. NEX-7 with Leica 60mm at f/2.8 ISO 100 The NEX-7 with the Leica 60mm is a nice match in good light. We had no problem of keeping the shutter speeds up at f/2.8 in snowy New England. NEX-7 with Leica 60mm at f/2.8 ISO 800 to 1600 The Leica 60mm Macro Elmarit-R has a long focus throw and focusing indoors takes some practice with moving subjects. The focus ring is well damped and provided nice feedback for critical focus.

NEX-5N Images by Dinito1980 Here are some sample images from Dinito1980 of flickr. The images are created using the Sony NEX-5N and a Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro lens . We love the colors from the Sony NEX sensor and Dinito1980 makes good use of that. Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro used for the images above. See more of Dinito's work at DINITO1980's flickr Gallery .
