Fotodiox Vizelex RhinoCam for NEX Cameras

Image
Sony NEX-5N with a Hasselblad 50mm Distagon via RhinoCam Photo by PCMag" The RhinoCam allows us to use NEX E-mount cameras with medium format lenses. The RhinoCam has lens adapters for Pentax 645, Mamiya 645, or Hasselblad V lenses. The NEX is mounted on a shift mount while the lens is fixed. The NEX is then shifted to cover the image circle projected by the medium format lens. Each image is then stitched by an imaging software. Here's an in-depth video walk through of the RhinoCam. NEX-5N autofocus in action to capture these ducks in flight. Sony NEX-5N with 55-210mm OSS and DH1758 1.7x Conversion Lens Here are some excellent photos produced by the NEX-5N and the 55-210mm OSS lens with a 1.7x Tele Conversion lens attached taken by zackiedawg . He uses the NEX-5N in A or S mode with Auto ISO. He makes sure that the shutter speed is fast enough to eliminate any camera movement. Autofocus is set to AF-S. He is producing excellent results with such a portable setup. Here is zackiedawg's description of the VCL-DH1758 1.7x Tele Conversion Lens: For those unfamiliar, these tele-extenders screw on to the filter threads on the end of the lens, and optically magnify the lens without light loss - so the effective range of the 55-210mm lens with the 1.7x extender onboard goes from 210mm max to 357mm max. This is a very useful range on the NEX body, given the 1.5x crop which allows for over 500mm effective range, and the fact that it loses no additional light m

NEX-5N and Canon 40mm STM Lens

Image
Canon 40mm f/2.8 STM Lens on NEX-5N by Bob Israel Bob I. posted some samples from his newest lens, the Canon 40mm f/2.8 STM lens. STM designates the stepper motor in the lens which allows the new Canon T4i to mimic the Sony NEX's continuous autofocus during video. The Canon 40mm STM is mounted on the NEX-5N via the Conurus / Metabones EOS to NEX E-mount Smart Adapter. The Smart Adapter allows the NEX to control the aperture of the EOS lens. See our previous post here . The 40mm STM is a pancake lens and is less than an inch in thickness. Here are some samples from the Canon 40mm f/2.8 STM Lens, Conurus/Metabones EOS to NEX Smart Adapter, and the NEX-5N . Photos by Bob Israel Thanks Bob I!

NEX Shift Adapter for Nikon Lenses

Image
NEX Shift Adapter for Nikon Lenses Here is a Kipon shift lens adapter for NEX cameras. At the moment it is only available for Nikon F lenses. Here is the eBay auction for the Kipon shift adapter for NEX cameras. Let's hope more mounts for the shift adapter will be available soon. Here is how Canon describes shift: To explain Shift, the example of photographing a building exterior is an easy one for most to follow. Normally, if you use a wide-angle lens and try to photograph a fairly tall building, you’d aim the camera upward to include all of the building in the frame. The problem? In aiming the camera upward, you introduce a perspective distortion. The sides of the building bow inward, giving a sort of pyramid-like effect. In our everyday photography, we’ve seen this so much that we’re usually acclimated to it and accept it. But to a critical professional, there are times when this distortion is not acceptable. Here is where a shift lens comes in. With the lens’s movements all

How To Clean a Sony NEX Camera

Image
We have not experienced any visible dust on our images yet. We always make sure that the camera is turned off before changing the lens. We also try to change it only when we are indoors. We've never used cleaning mode on the NEX so the video is quite helpful. From Sony's website: Clean the dust or debris on the image sensor by performing the automatic cleaning function of the camera. If dust remains, use a blower. Sony cannot honor the warranty if the user cleans the image sensor surface with a commercial solution. We recommend only using the blower to remove dust particles. If dust still remains even if you try the above, consult your Sony dealer or local authorized Sony service facility. Sony NEX-5N Family

Sony NEX-5N and Pentax K-01 Camera

Image
Sony NEX-5N vs Pentax K-01 Front View Here is the Sony NEX-5n with the Pentax K-01. They are only associated since they are mirrorless but that is where the relationship ends. The Pentax K-01 by Marc Newson is not really a Sony NEX competitor. It's closely related to the Pentax K-5 but without a viewfinder (optical nor optional evf) and autofocus speed. The K-01 and the K-5 use the Pentax K mount and share the same lens system. The K-01 loses the mirror box of the K-5 which makes it less expensive at $899 with the 40mm lens (60mm equivalent FOV) compared to $1300 for the K-5 with an 18-55mm lens. The closes Sony product is the SLT-A65 which is $1050 with the 18-55mm lens . Sony NEX-5N vs Pentax K-01 Top View Sony NEX-5N vs Pentax K-01 Back View

NEX-5N with Zeiss Contarex 115mm Tessar

Image
Here is Brian T's Sony NEX-5N with a Carl Zeiss Contarex 115mm f/3.5 Tessar macro bellows lens. The lens was produced between 1962 and 1972 and only 1500 were made. A Contarex to NEX E-mount adapter was used. from Brian: Surprisingly, it's pretty easy to hand hold with the bellows attached, holding the bellows in the left hand, and the camera in the right. It's super easy to focus using the bellows adjustment or on the lens. The bellows also pretty much removes the need for a tripod, as you can just support it on anything available for stabilization.
